The opening 20 minutes was a tight midfield battle with neither of these teams wanting to commit.
It was Leicester though who took the lead in the 22nd minute. The ball was well worked into the Forest box when James Scowcroft found the towering figure of Brian Deane whose header was too powerful to stop.
Forest's Marlon Harewood had Forest's first shot on target. This was a 30-yard efford that was comfortably saved by Ian Walker in the 31st minute. Minute's later Harewood had another long-range shot that was deflected forcing a corner, the resulting passage of play causing Leicester some problems and they had to clear their lines twice.
With five minutes to go in the first half the visitors doubled their lead following Paul Dickov's spectacular overhead-kick.
Forest came out fighting for the second half and had a golden opportunity when David Johnson slotted the ball to an unmarked David Prutton 10 yards out, but Prutton placed the ball inches over the crossbar.
Midway thriugh the second half Forest boss Paul Hart brought on Jack Lester who was playing as a third man up front. Forest got their rewards when referee Paul Taylor awarded a penalty after David Johnson was brought down. Johnson made no mistake from the spot.
Five minutes of time was added on at the end of the game, this was due to a few prolonged injury spells by Leicester. This was met with frustration from fans and players alike but Forest's persistence paid off again in the fifth minute of time added on through Lester as he headed Forest's second goal to take a share of the points
